Karen Mok - A Woman Of Talents Her English name is Karen Joy Morris Mok (Her father is of Welsh-= blood so the last name "Morris" was given to her. But her mother was a Chinese, thus her last name is "Mok".) This fantastic singer was bornt on June 2 in Hong Kong. (Thanks to "sun", I discovered that our dear diva does not like her age to be revealed.) Short Biography Karen went to elementary school in Hongkong at the Diocesan Girls' School, the top girls secondary school in Hongkong, from Forms 1-5. She was a very active student, involved in numerous school activities and groups like the drama club, school choir, girl guides, and the Chinese orchestra! No wonder she won the "Hongkong's Outstanding Student Award" upon graduation from there and then she went to study Italian Literature at university level in Italy at the United World College. (*clap clap*) [Click here to view essays she wrote in the college!] After finishing her education in Italy, she went to the London University to further her studies in Italian Literature. Now she is a linguistic in English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin and Italian, she also has some knowledge on Japanese. Fate should I say have been pretty good to Karen. Karen met Mark Lui and C.Y. Kong (one of the best music producers in the current music world right now!) while she was studying in London University. She even sang as the lead singer in his band. And what's more, through the demo tape of Mark Lui, Karen was discovered by Star Records and started her career as a singer. As a woman of many talent, Karen likes dancing to jazz and also traditional Chinese dance. She loves jazz music, reading, playing the oboe, piano and the chinese "guzheng" and cooking! Talented she maybe but she is also a fan of Ella Fitzgerald, Anita Mui, Jacky Cheung, Madonna, Leslie Cheung, Faye Wong, Sandy Lam, The Bee Gees, The Beatles, A-Mei and Alanis Morrissette... (and the list goes on... why is Karen so humble?) My Thoughts Personally, what do I like about Karen Mok, one thing is for sure -- I admire her talents in fields of Music and Language. How did I come to know of Karen? It was somewhere in 1998 when I heard the song "Love" over the radio. A very unique song with a mixture of a Chinese dialect with Mandarin. Then I heard the song "No Time" and "Love In Hiroshima". Well, that was fatal audio addiction and I started to love her songs. My friends always say that her songs are tuneless. I'll prove them wrong. I love the bland songs she sings and the rock she makes. Songs that are so-called "bland" are those like "Love", "Out Of A Sudden" and "Diamond" while those that are noisy are those like "No Time" and "Pretty In Love". I find Karen's voice very natural... very sincere... very warm.... very unique. She never imitates others, she is herself, Karen. What more can I say?
